The North Carolina Zoo is located just a short drive away in Asheboro, NC (about 75 miles from Raleigh). The NC Zoo is the largest "walk-through" natural-habitat zoo in the world.
The Zoo has two main areas: "Africa" and "North America." You can either enjoy the walk along the five miles of walking paths or hop on the trams and enjoy a ride between attractions.
A "must see" are the Gorillas and Chimps at the Forest Glade. This group of chimps is the largest in any zoo in America.
Do you want to look at a Giraffe eye-to-eye? On the Giraffe Deck you're up at the tree tops and can do that! Or get a list of the daily feeding times and watch the animals munch their lunch.
How about a great birthday party all set up by the Zoo. It's hassle free, the kids love it ~ rhinos, elephants, lions, and gorillas beat a clown out every time.
For kids, ages 7-12, how about a Zoo Snoozes? This is where the kids stay overnight and have a fun, educational packed program. Maybe they will hear the lions roar at night. Woo-hoo!
The North Carolina Zoo has a huge selection of educational events. It's one of the most incredible zoos in the world. You will be so impressed with the herds of animals in their natural settings. It is absolutely an incredible experience.
