Raleigh Museums North Carolina Museum of Art (919) 839-6262
Description, Map, Review & Recommendations
The North Carolina Museum of Art has always been wonderful and in the spring of 2010 it outdid itself! The NC Museum of Art completed a massive expansion and renovation that turned this once fantastic museum into a spectacular world class art campus.
The museum has two buildings - the West and East buildings. The West building is the permanent collection along with the restaurant, store, and Rodin collection.
The Rodin collection is a must. It is the southeast's largest assemblage of Rodin sculptures. The Rodin garden with the sculptures, reflection pool, and the zen-like bamboo is my favorite.
The West Building also houses the Modern and Contemporary, European, American, Classical, and Ancient Egyptian galleries.
The grounds alone are also fabulous. These lovely acres encompass the country's largest art museum park. There are walking paths and bike trails that have art work along the way.
There is a cell phone tour on the paths that you can call into. All you need to do is dial in a code and the artist or an art curator will tell you about the piece of work you are looking at.
There's a variety of tours that you can take and the activities for the children are delightful.
Outdoor concerts are great and they always book a wide selection of artists - from Joan Baez to Jean Luc Ponty, to Paperhand Puppet Intervention, and to so much more. It is artistry you will only see here - in Raleigh.
We are members and highly recommend that you join us in this incredible expression of this vast interpretation of life that we all delight in.
Other Raleigh Museums we recommend are North Carolina Museum of Life and Science, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and the Marbles Kids Museum.
