Raleigh Recreation Sarah P. Duke Gardens (919) 684-3698
Description, Map, Review & Recommendations
The Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham, is one of the most beautiful gardens we have ever seen. It is an absolute must if you haven't been there or if you have company in from out of town. It is always beautiful!
Our favorite time is spring and I am in love with the Wisteria Gazebo in the Terrace Gardens. It is phenomenal. You can stand there and overlook the Terraces and the beautiful floras that change with the seasons.
Duke Gardens has about 55 acres of manicured garden to wander through and be amazed. There are bridges, lakes, lily pad, ducks and other wildlife to see besides the beautiful flowers
This is the #1 place to propose marriage in the Raleigh Triangle. So if you are in a relationship and go here - be careful - the "Will you marry me" bug is alive and well in Duke Gardens. Chances are you will see a bride or two as it is an incredibly beautiful backdrop for weddings and portraits.
We go here ever season to see what is growing and flowering. Everything is well labeled so if you see something you like you can write it down and get it for your own yard.
There is a large grassy area for people to relax, picnic, read, throw a Frisbee, or just play and feel good. There is also a large lake that you can stroll around.
Wear comfortable shoes because you will want to walk around - there is always "one more" path to wander down. The gardens have several ponds to discover. One has little stepping stones to get to a gazebo sitting in the middle.
If you love tulips be sure and go to the gardens in the spring. The colors are electric. They literally will take your breath away.
Duke Gardens was a great way to spend the day it's free and it's beautiful. For yourself, you friends, your family - Duke Gardens is a treat.

Other Raleigh Recreational venues we like are William Umstead State Park, the JC Raulston Arboretum and Falls Lake.
