Jordan Lake is a 14,000 acre man-made lake and reservoir located west of Raleigh and south of Durham.
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area totals close to 47,000 acres and provides a whole gamut of outdoor recreational things to do.
Jordan Lake has fishing, boating, swimming, easy hiking, picnicking, and camping.
There are several boat ramps, camping (RV and tent), water entry places and easy hiking trails. There are even some nice sandy beaches which are great areas for little kids because they have picnic shelters and potties close by. Whew!
One of the really cool things to do at Jordan Lake to spot Bald eagles. Jordan Lake State Recreation Area is one of the largest summertime homes of the bald eagle.
The best place to see eagles is at the north end of the lake either at the NC 751 bridge crossing Northeast Creek or the Wildlife Resources Commission's Wildlife Observation Deck. The best times for eagle spotting are early in the morning or in the evening. They are really magnificent. (Bring binoculars)

Driving Directions: From I-40/I-440 take exit 293 south on US-1 S toward Sanford/Asheboro; after 4 miles go West on US-64 toward Pittsboro/Asheboro; go about 15 miles; Turn left at Beaver Creek Rd. Jordan Lake entrance will be on the left.
