Description, Map, Review & Recommendations

Lake Wheeler is a beautiful 800 acre park (650-acre lake) that is a great getaway lake with so much to offer and yet not too far away. It is located only 4 1/2 miles south of I-440.

You can go boating with your own boat or you can rent recreational boats available there (Canoes and Pedal boats).

Lake Wheeler offers all kinds of fun lessons like windsurfing, sailing, and fly fishing.

Lake Wheeler has a great state-of-the-art rowing dock for sculling and is one of the lakes in the Raleigh Triangle that is also used for competitive rowing.

Lake Wheeler is great for fishing and there are fishing spots all around the lake.

When you get worn out from boating and fishing you can have a picnic in one of the many covered picnic shelters.

When the picnicking is over stay awhile and enjoy one of the evening concerts that play during the summer. It is the perfect way to end the day - the concerts are fun and usually draw a real nice crowd.

Driving Directions: Lake Wheeler is located at 6404 Lake Wheeler Road Raleigh, NC 27603. From I-40 & Lake Wheeler Rd (Exit 297); Go South on Lake Wheeler Road, Approx 4 1/2 miles then Turn right into the entrance into the park.
