Raleigh Recreation JC Raulston Arboretum (919) 515-3132
Description, Map, Review & Recommendations
Raulston Arboretum is an incredible nationally acclaimed garden.
It's part of the NC State campus system and has been largely built and maintained by NC State University students, faculty, volunteers, and staff.
This garden is dazzling in its variety of plants. It has a wonderful design, it is set up as a series of individual gardens, each with a specific style or ecosystem and plants.
The White Garden (the favorite of brides) is an elegant English style garden. It has, of course, white flowers and plants that have white in them or variegated leaves. There is a small garden pool and a small, white, Victorian gazebo. It is very charming.
The Japanese Garden so lovely. It has a traditional wooden bridge built in a zigzag pattern, designed to keep evil spirits out. It has Japanese plants and a large raked-stone Zen area. Everything the Japanese garden was built "with respect for the wood." No power tools were used - everything was hand crafted. It has a very peaceful feel.
They have several other model gardens like a Townhouse Garden, a Reading Garden, a Butterfly Garden, and Water Gardens.
The plants in each area are all identified so that you can set up your own garden at home with the perfect plants. It is just full of home landscaping ideas.
The entire area is set up to relax and enjoy. There are benches throughout so that you can sit and enjoy the view or read or just relax.
It is rarely crowed - it is almost like it can be your own secret garden. This place is absolutely beautiful!
