518 West is now closed - We Miss You!

518 West is an Italian restaurant in Raleigh located in the Glenwood South area. It's really great because it has some of the wonderful traditional Italian fare but the menu is a bit trendier.

518 is located in a cool brick building and the atmosphere inside is bright and open. Service is friendly and prompt even when it is packed - which happens a lot.

The food at 518 is lighter and has more creative dishes than the typical Italian restaurant. All the dishes still have that wonderful Mediterranean kiss to them but you don't feel quite so weighted down. 518 also has a small plate menu that is perfect and we often go that route.

A couple of things we enjoy are the grilled pear salad with the honey-walnut vinaigrette (not over sweet) and the Shrimp and Scallops Bienville. Also great is the Wild Mushroom Polenta with fresh rosemary. Bowing to tradition, 518's Marinara sauce is very full bodied and delicious.

518 is open for lunch, dinner and brunch. It does get crowded so you'll need to make reservations. Monday night is a great night to go because it is half-price-wine-bottles night.

Heads up guys - if you want to make it a romantic evening get the one table on the stairs overlooking the restaurant - she will love it.

Driving Directions: 518 is located at 518 West Jones Street. From I-40 East take the Wade Ave Exit. Stay on Wade Avenue. Just past the Oberlin Road/Cameron Village turnoff. Take a right onto Glenwood Avenue heading south. Go through 3 stoplights. At the blinking light, take a left onto West Jones Street. 518 is on the corner of Glenwood Avenue and West Jones Street. Parking is just behind the building on the left.
