Raleigh Restaurant The Angus Barn - 919-781-2444
Description, Map, Review & Recommendations
The Angus Barn is a landmark in Raleigh Restaurant. The Angus Barn opened in 1960 and then was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1965.
The Décor is very interesting. It is comfortable but not at all elegant - Rustically Charming. Somehow it has a feel of western, historic, barnish, wealth. For example - there is an entire wall of guns - historic firearms - but guns none the less.
This is a restaurant that knows its meat. The ribs are delicious as they fall off the bone and the steaks are done to perfection. The marinated/grilled scallops are also delicious.
There are appetizers as soon as you arrive. When you sit down, they give you a little plate of olives and pickles, a basket of homemade crackers and cheese spread and a basket of the best Texas toast on the planet.
In the upstairs Wild Turkey Lounge the atmosphere is comfortable leather. There are fireplaces all around the waiting areas, leather comfy couches and chairs you sink into and never want to leave. Of course there are turkeys - lots of turkeys. I think they may all be decanters but I'm not sure.
One of the crowning glories of the Angus Barn is its wine list. They have one of the most impressive wine lists in the NC triangle. If you can get a tour of their wine cellar - take it! It is incredible. If you are wine aficionado or a novice, the sommelier will recommend the most perfect or unique wine for you.
For dessert the Angus Barn has an array of homemade pies that will just make you quiver. The apple cobbler (Western again) is fantastic.
Oh, don't forget to stop by the Angus Barn's Country Store. It is interesting and cute.
Other Raleigh Restaurants we like include Herons at The Umstead in Cary, and Sitti and The Mint at One Exchange, in the downtown area.
