Raleigh Restaurant bu.ku - 919-834-6963
Description, Map, Review & Recommendations
bu.ku (The name comes from the French "Merci beaucoup" - the beaucoup part) is a great downtown Raleigh restaurant that introduces you to the concept of global street food in a very fun, hip atmosphere.
If you are unfamiliar with global street food, like most of us, bu.ku is a great place to expand your palate and have fun at the same time.
I'm not always sure what some (ok - many) of the dishes are but it is no problem. The wait staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about all the dishes. They will tell you all you need to know.
Most items are tapas sized, so you can get a variety of tastes. Their tapas size is big - more like a small main, so don't get too carried away.
bu.ku is very roomy with a bar, dance floor, a huge dining area, and a large street level patio. The atmosphere is fun, upscale hip, modern and inviting at the same time.
I love bu.ku because it serves the two things I wish I could live on - seafood and cilantro. There's a lot of seafood dishes and cilantro is put on almost everything - thank you! The scallops and jade prawns are super good and for meat lovers - the sake-braised short ribs. Incredible!
The hot pot is a must - it is both large and also very delicious. The beet and goat cheese salad and the grilled Octopus Salad are also very yummy.
The desserts are great - save room. The Tiramisu comes in a tall glass with fresh espresso poured over the top - great presentation. The trio of créme brulee is also way too good.
bu.ku has a lot of inventive specialty drinks. The Rue Eden (rum, pineapple juice, basil and soda) and the Horchata (Kahlua based goodie) are highly recommended. They have a surprisingly wide selection of wine for dinner and all of them under the $30 a bottle line.
We highly recommend bu.ku if you're looking for a restaurant in Raleigh that will give you incredible international foods and great atmosphere.
It's best to make reservations - particularly on the weekend as it gets packed.
Other Raleigh Restaurants we like include Herons at the Umstead, The Angus Barn near the airport, and Saint Jacques in North Raleigh.
