Waraji is an incredible yet unassuming Japanese and Sushi Raleigh Restaurant. It's location in a nondescript strip mall belies the goodies that await you inside.
The décor is traditionally minimal with several cute tatami (sit on the floor) rooms. The sushi bar is located toward the back of the house.
This is some of the freshest and best sushi you can get in Raleigh. If you love sushi this is the place to go.
They have a great array of traditional sushi choices along with their signature creative rolls.
Sometimes we go in with our minds set on certain nigiri sushi - other times we just roll with the chef's suggestion - which are always great.
I love some of the specialty rolls like the Crystal Meth and the Scary Jerry because I love spicy - real spicy. Others great ones we really like are the Volunteer Roll, (scallop, spicy tempura, salmon and white fish), the Sweet Dragon roll (seared unagi or eel, brushed with eel sauce), and the Crack Roll (hand roll with avocado and spicy tuna).
We really go for the sushi - but they also have traditional dinner Japanese fare. The tea ice cream is a very nice dessert.
Waraji is very popular and packed every time we go. Expect to wait on the weekends but, if you like fresh, good,neat sashimi and sushi - you will be glad you came. They stay true to the purpose of sushi - fresh, fantastic, fish. They also have a very nice selection of Sake.
Other Raleigh Restaurants we like include Herons at the Umstead, The Angus Barn near the airport, and Saint Jacques in North Raleigh.

Driving Directions: Waraji is located at 5910 Duraleigh Road - I-440 - Take exit 7B to merge onto US-70 W/Glenwood Ave toward Crabtree Valley/Durham; Continue to follow US-70 W/Glenwood Ave; Turn left at W Millbrook Rd; Continue onto Duraleigh Rd; Make a U-turn; Waraji will be in the shopping mall on the right.
