3 Most Common Raleigh Home Buying Mistakes # 3 Mistake
Buying the Wrong House
This is the scariest one. This is the mistake that people looking to buy a home in Raleigh worry about the most.
It is easier than you think to buy the wrong house. The process of looking for a Raleigh home is fun and exciting but make sure you know your top priorities in the home you want to find.
Knowing your top 2-3 things a house "must have" will help keep you from being swept away by a beautiful new feature that wasn't on your priority list.
Here are a couple of examples of being awe struck by the wrong thing.
Couple A
They were looking for a home with an open floor plan, bonus room, and nice back yard.
They found a home that had a breathtaking master bathroom. It was BEAUTIFUL - with every bell and whistle you could want. They could not stop talking about that bathroom. Yup, they bought the home.
What they forgot about was the open floor plan. The kitchen was tucked away in the rear of the home and the rooms were set in a very traditional, formal layout.
After awhile, they realized they were always unhappy with the home because the kitchen was cut off from the flow of the family. The lack of the open floor plan did not fit the lifestyle of their family.
Couple B
They fell in love with a home in the country with a beautiful view and a quiet, peaceful setting. They felt the setting was perfect! They also felt the quality of life they would have in the home would far outweigh the 90 minute commute to work in Raleigh.
A year after they bought the house, it was up for sale. Both felt the time they spent on the road everyday took away so much from their time together that it was effecting their relationship. No view was worth that.
Before you ever start looking at home - look at how you live your life now.
What are the important things about your lifestyle? How would those things be enhanced by your new Raleigh home?
Write those things down - things about how you live in a home, the location, features that are critical to enjoying your life.
Always have your list as you look for a new home in Raleigh. View each home in light of your list. Be careful that other features of a home do not overshadow what is important to you and your life choices. It could come back to haunt you later.
Remember a house never "makes a life." It can enhance a life but the life of a home is created by the people living inside it.
Let your Raleigh Realtor review your list so that he/she will keep those things in mind when selecting homes for you to view.
